RTL expands Ro-Ro terminal at the port of St. Petersburg
Group of companies Russian Transport Lines (RTL Group) has expanded its facilities at St.Pb Port’s Ro-Ro terminal for handling imported cars, RTL’s CEO Konstantin Skovoroda said in an interview with PortNews.
This morning the Bahamas-flagged Nordic Ace docked at the pier № 101-B of the Big Port of St. Petersburg. The ship (owner Euro Marine Carrier BV, agent Inflot Worldwide Ferry Services) carried 454 Nissan and Infinity cars loaded at the port of Newcastle.
RTL operates the terminal and adjacent territory under the agreement and guarantee with BLG Logistics Group.
RTL Group projects for 2011 to boost imports of autos through the port of St. Petersburg to 200,000 vehicles a year. The figure will correspond to approximately 100 percent of total car imports handled by the year-end 2010 at Russian ports of the Gulf of Finland, Worldwide Inflot Ferry Services’ CEO Michael Prosvirkin said. In the pre-crisis year 2008 RTL’s car throughput hit the high (200ths cars), the company said.
"In view of attracting new customers (Toyota), and upward trend in car sales RTL has great potential to repeat, or perhaps to beat its previous record," Mr. Prosvirkin was quoted as saying.
Russian Transport Lines (RTL Group LLC) was established in 2004 as a company, providing integrated logistics solutions. Since 2005, RTL Group has been working under direct contracts with major car manufacturers. The company is a leader on the market of customs clearance of cars and vehicles, specializing in most effective logistics solutions for import of vehicles, special equipment, components, spare parts for assembly plants. In 2006, RTL Group launched the first Russian marine terminal in St. Petersburg for handling car imports. In 2009, the Group formed its own RTL-Auto company for auto shipping using 100 tractor-trailers.
