Maersk mulls launching new services to Russia

Ocean carrier Maersk Line plans to launch new services to Russia, PorNews reports citing the company. "This is an ongoing process, and when the demand arises, we’ll proceed investing in Russia", Maersk said.

Currently, Maersk box ships port rotation includes two terminals at the Big Port of St. Petersburg - First Container Terminal and Petrolesport.

The other day, Maersk Line announced it launches Marus Express, a direct ocean container service between Morocco and Russia. The service rotation will include the ports of Kasabalnka, Agadir and container terminal Petrolesport. The company will use three vessels of capacity 800,000teu (including 200 reefer containers) making weekly calls at the ports.

The new service will enable exports of fruits and vegetables to Russia. In addition, Maersk is considering other opportunities to use this line, including the transit of goods from Russia to Africa.

From Dec,2009 to date Petrolesport terminal has been handling container ships of Maersk Line’s ECUBEX service connecting South America and Russia. The containerships are carrying cargoes of Russia's largest banana trader JFC Group (JFC).
