The project is implemented under the state leasing scheme and co-financed by United Shipbuilding Corporation (85%) and Western Shipping Company (15%). Partner of USC is state-run GoznakLeasing, which will purchase the ships from the shipbuilder and turn them over under the lease contract to Western Shipping Company.
Universal sea-river-going dry cargo ships of 7,000dwt are intended for transportation of ranged import/export cargoes. The project vessels feature larger capacity cargo holds (up to 10,900 cbm) to ensure maximum volume of grain, paper, pulp and lumber.
The vessels are built to a class of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping to operate under the Russian flag in the Baltic, North, Mediterranean, White, Caspian, Black Sea and the Irish Sea in a 100-mile zone offshore.
The project was developed by Odessa Marine Engineering Bureau in conjunction with Western Shipping Company and Lotos Shipyard.
Part of VBTH Western Shipping Company is in majority ownership of Universal Cargo Logistics Holding. WSC specializes in shipping export / import and dry bulk cargoes to the European and Russian markets, making about 500 vessel calls a year in foreign ports and ports of the Russian Federation. The operator provides transportation services to Western Europe, carries cargo to North-West Russia, the Black Sea coast, and via inland waterways to the European part of Russia. Shipping volume of reaches 852,000 tons a year. Western Shipping Company's fleet includes 11 vessels of river ships and sea-going vessels.
Dutch company Universal Cargo Logistics Holding (UCL Holding) is International Transport Group, which includes ports in the Russia’s North-West and South, Volga, North-West Shipping and Western Shipping Company, as well as a number of other shipping, shipbuilding and logistics assets. The UCL’s newbuilds program includes construction of at least 60 vessels, river, sea-going and mixed river-sea ships by 2015.
