Vanino Port’s four-month cargo volume down 11% to 1,819m tons

Cargo throughput of Vanino Commercial Sea Port (Port Vanino) in January-April, 2011 decreased by 11% compared to same period of 2010, to 1 million 819.2 thousand tons, the company's press service said. In April, the stevedore company handled 436,500 tons of cargo, down 24% from a year earlier.

During the reporting period exports dropped by 6.3% to 964,900 tons, including 550,700 tons of coal, 55,700 tons of aluminum and 353,700 tons of timber cargo. The four-month imports amounted to 411,600 tons, up 6.1% from Jan-Apr, 2010, including 355,500 tons of alumina and 40,000 tons of petroleum coke. Short-sea traffic volume slumped 60.7% to 75,100 tons. The Vanino - Kholmsk ferry service transported 367,600 tons or15.4% below last year’s figures.

In January-April the port handled 345 ships (including 180 ferries), and 19,500 rail cars. Container throughput for the period amounted to 2,812 TEUs.

JSC Vanino Commercial Sea Port (Port Vanino) is the major operator of Port of Vanino (Khabarovsk Territory). The port is a gateway for trade flows between Russia and Japan, South Korea, China, Australia, USA and other countries of Asia Pacific Region. Vanino also handles imports shipped to the northern regions of Russia. The port operates the waterfront of about 2.5-km with three specialized cargo handling facilities. In 2010 throughput of Port Vanino Port rose to about 6 million tons (+0.2% yoy). Russian Government holds through Federal Agency for Property Management a 73,33-percent stake in Port of Vanino JSC.The company is included in the register of natural monopolies in transport, which are under state regulation and control.

State-owned shares of Vanino Port have been put up for sale. The auction is scheduled for May 19, 2011. The bidders are Sibuglemet CJSC, OJSC Mezhdurechye, OJSC Siberian Coal Energy Company, LLC Canopus, JSC Holding company SDS-Coal, LLC Trade Service, LLC Tim Consult.
