Yang Ming Marine Transport, Sinotrans ink pact

Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp, an ocean shipping company based in Keelung of Taiwan, said that it has inked a cooperation agreement with Sinotrans Ltd , China's leading logistics service provider, with effort to help Yang Ming Marine Transport to expand its logistics and transport businesses in mainland China, China Knowledge reports.

The Taiwanese company said in a statement that the two firms will cooperate on shipping routes between mainland China and other emerging countries in Asia.

However, details on the agreement were unavailable.

Yang Ming Marine Transport expects revenue to rebound in the second half of this year due to increasing freight rates.

President Robert Ho said that the imposition of the peak season surcharges, which started in mid-August, will help boost the firm's revenue.

Yang Ming Marine Transport's revenue reached NT$48.04 billion in the first half of this year, down 0.72% from the same period of last year. The company's second-quarter revenue was NT$25.14 billion, increasing 9.78% from the first quarter of this year, but declining 5.31% from a year ago.

Yang Ming Marine Transport is the second-largest container shipper in Taiwan in terms of revenue.
