Hunchun (pop 250,000) is a county-level city in the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture in Jilin province, northeast China, bordering on North Korea and Russia.
Sea-land transport routes including the Hunchun, Zalubinau, Busan, Hunchun, Zalubinau, Niigata route and others were launched to strengthen the economic cooperation among China, Russia, Japan and South Korea and promote investment and trade contacts, economic and cultural exchanges, tourism resources development and logistics industry development among these countries.

The railway is an international link from the boundary point of Hunchun's Changlingzi railway port to Russia's Kamyshovaya Station. It was suspended not long after in commenced operation in February, 2000.
Railways operations resume this month of September, and will service a 10-million tonne international transshipment station which will start construction in Hunchun at that time.
With its completion, the transshipment station will further enhance the cargo traffic capacity of Hunchun-Kamyshovaya Railway, promoting Sino-Russia economic and trade cooperation and providing greater opportunities for the opening up of Yanbian, Hunchun and the Jilin province as a whole.
The transshipment station project is the transformation of the Hunchun transshipment station by Northeast Asian Railway Group, with a total investment of about CNY270 million (US$42.3 million), including the building of broad gauge arrival-departure line, timber transshipment line, vehicle gear changing line, crude oil transshipment line, bulk coal yard, timber handling yard, container yard and other ancillary facilities.
