New South Wales plans to raise $2.3 billion by leasing Port Botany
Australia's most populous state New South Wales State plans to raise up to 2.2 billion Australian dollars (US$2.32 billion) by leasing one of the country's biggest container ports in an effort to fund infrastructure ranging from new railways and roads to hospital upgrades, The Wall Street Journal reports.
Run by Sydney Ports Corp.- Port Botany is Australia's second-biggest container port by volume. Situated on the northeastern shores of Botany Bay, where British sea captain James Cook made the first European landfall on Australia's east coast, its assets include three container terminals, six container vessel berths—projected to increase to 11—and a bulk liquids berth.
