Baltic Coal Terminal throughput more than doubled in Jan-Aug
Coal shipments through Ventspils-based Baltic Coal Terminal in January-August 2011 soared more than two times compared with the same period of 2010, to 2,745,447 tons, the stevedoring company said.
In August, BCT handled 431,082 tons of coal, a threefold jump from a year earlier.
Baltic Coal Terminal is a JV of two companies: CJSC MPO Kuzbass and Ventspils Commercial Sea Port. In 2010, coal throughput of the terminal amounted to about 2 million tons. Currently, the coal handled at the BCT’s terminal is exported largely to the UK, Belgium, Spain and Morocco. The terminal’s indoor warehouse allows simultaneous storage of 210,000 tons of coal, (capacity - 6 m t/y). The two companies have invested in the first phase of the terminal EUR 80 million.
