Ust-Luga terminal reports record coal volume in August, railcars backlog
JSC Rosterminalugol (Ust-Luga) in August 2011 loaded to ships 1,288,528 tons of coal, a record volume since the terminal commissioning, the stevedoring company reports.
At the same time, the company could not accomplish its projected figure in August for unloading coal from railcars as coal shippers failed to fulfill their obligations and Rosterminalugol says it was due to the non-fulfillment of plans by the coal shippers supplying the cargo to the terminal and shortfall of railcars, other reasons.
"Actually, we unloaded only 13,163 rail cars versus planned 17,521 cars," the company said.
The terminal handled the seven-millionth ton of coal on August 29, which was loaded to the bulker City Of Dubrovnik. In 2010, this milestone was reached only in December.
JSC Rosterminalugol was established in 1996 to build and operate the coal terminal at Port of Ust-Luga. The terminal’s projected annual capacity is 8 million tons of coal. Rosterminalugol specializes in loading / unloading operations, freight forwarding services, building and maintenance of facilities at the coal terminal. The company also provides insurance services for goods and property, the risks of transactions at Ust-Luga port. The terminal has two berths of total length of 540 meters and depth of 14 meters. The terminal can handle vessels with length of 240 m and breadth of 32.2 m. In 2010, coal exports from the terminal rose nearly 6% to 7.5 million tons.
