Port of Tallinn’s cargo volume up 2.6% in Jan-Aug, to 24.84m tons
Cargo traffic at the port of Tallinn in January-August 2011 increased by 2.6% over the same period of 2010 , to 22.84 million tons, the Port Authority said.
Container throughput for the period grew by 26.7%, to 127,504 TEUs.
Eight-month volume of liquid bulk cargo totaled 18.19 million tons, a 7.9 percent growth year-on-year, bulk cargo volume dropped 31.1 percent to 2.65 million tons, handling of rolling cargoes rose 7.8% to 2.45 million tons.
In January-August, the port handled 4939 ships (including passenger vessels), 0.7% more than a year before.
Port of Tallinn (AS Tallinna Sadam) ranks third among largest seaport, next to St. Petersburg and Primorsk, on the Baltic Sea. The Port comprises five so-called port zones: Muuga, Old City Harbor, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and Saaremaa. In 2010, Port of Tallinn’s cargo volume totaled 36.65 million tons.
