Busan container throughput up 12.2% in August
South Korea's Busan port handled a larger volume of container throughput in August due in part to increased trading activities with Japan and Russia, Seatrade Asia Online reports.Container traffic last month rose 12.2% to 1.38m teu compared to the same period of 2010, according to Busan Port Authority (BPA).
Gwangyang and Incheon ports, however, saw their throughput decrease year-on-year by 14% and 1% respectively in August.
Container throughput in all of South Korean ports in August increased by 137,000 teu or 8.2% year-on-year to 1.8m teu, figures from BPA showed.
“Though the rate of increase slowed slightly during that month [August], a strong upward momentum remained,” BPA said in a statement.
