Armalit supplies pipeline accessories for Zvezdochka Shipyard
JSC Armalit-1 has produced a parcel of pipeline accessories for Project 877/877EKM submarines laid up for repairs at JSC Zvezdochka Ship Repair Center. The contract is valued about RUR 75 mln, Rusnavy reports citing the company's press service.
The shipment is implemented two months ahead of contract schedule. Making concessions to Zvezdochka which is regular customer and long-lasting partner, Armalit manufactures products in unprecedented short terms. Normally, production cycle of shipborne pipeline accessories is 5-12 months, but this order was executed in 3 months. As of today, 80% of final products have been already shipped; other parcel is planned for delivery in the next few weeks. The order includes manufacturing of various valves, flood valves, and filter cartridges. Pipeline accessories made by Armalit will be mounted almost in all systems of the submarines.
It should be mentioned that Project 877EKM (export modernized version of Project 877) submarines were built for such countries as India and Algeria, and that fact affected equipment's characteristics. In particular, when manufacturing of pipeline fittings, much attention was directed to stable functioning in tropical climate.
Project 877 Paltus diesel electric submarines (also known as Varshavyanka) built in the period of 1982-2000 are most silent Russian subs. This fact is due to absence of powerful pumps and surface propelling diesels, and available modification with water-jet propulsor instead of screw. Because of high degree of concealment, Western experts dubbed Project 877 as "Black Hole".
