Marco Polo wins contract to build five barges
Marco Polo Marine has secured a shipbuilding contract worth about S$10.5m ($8.1m) to build five deck cargo barges for Pelayaran Nasional Bina Buana Raya, an associated company of Marco Polo, Seatrade Asia Online reports. Construction of the five barges is slated to start in October at the company's Batam shipyard with delivery scheduled in July 2012, the Singapore-listed firm announced on Thursday.
The barges will be Indonesia-flagged and be deployed to ferry various commodities for customers within Indonesian waters.
“This contract will contribute to the profitability of the group's shipbuilding activities for the financial year ending 30 September 2012,” said Sean Lee, ceo of Marco Polo.
