BP to consider new route for Azerbaijani gas supplies to Europe
BP intends to consider a new direction to transport the Azerbaijani gas from the Shah Deniz field to South-East Europe along with gas transportation through prospective route of the Southern Gas Corridor, the company told Trend.
Technical parameters of the pipeline are not disclosed.
Participants of the Shah Deniz gas transportation project should submit their proposals by Oct.1. Gas transportation via a new route proposed by BP is more prospective for consideration among three major projects - Nabucco, ITGI and Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP).
The consortium for the Shah Deniz field development expects concrete proposals from various pipeline projects, including TAP by Oct.1, 2011. Based on these proposals a route for gas transportation will be chosen by late 2011.
The Southern Corridor is a priority EU energy project. It will diversify energy supply routes and resources, and increase EU energy security. The Southern Corridor includes the Nabucco gas pipeline, Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), White Stream, and ITGI (Turkey-Greece-Italy pipeline).
