OCSP throughput up 0.6 percent in Jan-Sept
Cargo traffic at Odessa Commercial Sea Port (OCSP) in January-September this year increased by 0.6 percent from last year’s numbers, to 18.9 million tons, the state-owned company said.
Dry cargo shipments rose by 1.1 million tons, or 11.1 percent year-on-year, to 11.3 million tons, while liquid bulk volume fell 11.8 percent to 7.6 million tons.
OCSP’s net income for the period is expected to reach UAH 341.6 million.
"The analysis of cargo segments shows continuing decline in shipments of metal (-784,500 tons) and oil products (-951,000 tons), the strategic cargoes for the port of Odessa," the Port Authority’s statement said.
Container traffic at the port’s two terminals totaled 334,300 TEUs, a 34.3 percent growth year-on-year.
In the reporting period, handing of bulk cargo rose 2,151,000 tons, up 838,000 tons over the same period of last year and 451,000 tons more versus the 2010’s figures.
Nine-month volume of raw sugar grew by 16 percent from Jan-Sept, 2010, to 631,000 tons. Grain cargo volume was down 3.5 percent y-o-y, to1.67 million tons.
State-owned Odessa Commercial Sea Port is a largest port in the Black Sea-Azov basin. The port encompasses 14 ha, 9-km waterfront and 54 berths. The port is able to handle annually 14 million tons of dry cargo and the same volume of petroleum products. Passenger terminal can accommodate 300-m vessels and handle up to 4 million tourists a year. In 2010, cargo throughput of OCSP fell 11.8% year-over-year, to 24.7 million tons.
