Tauranga port suspends shipping

Port of Tauranga has confirmed it will halt shipping movements from 9pm on Thursday until 6am on Friday because of debris in the water, NZ Newswire reports. The temporary suspension will only affect two ships - the Australia Express and the Kota Jati, port chief executive Mark Cairns said in a written statement.
Other shipping movements have been rearranged.
Cruise ships Volendam and Pacific Dawn will sail on Thursday evening as scheduled.
Mr Cairns re-emphasised the port is not closed.
Containers which turned up in shipping channels on Thursday morning were removed, he says.
Maritime New Zealand and the Navy have provided help to ensure port operations continue.
