Moeller-Maersk, the owner of the world's largest container line, said it plans to cut 700 positions in the Chinese market by 2009
The Copenhagen-headquartered company will start the layoff plan after shutting down its global services center in the city of Guangzhou, sources said, citing Michael Storgaard, spokesman with Moeller-Maersk, as saying.
Earlier this year, the container line, which employs about 20% of the group's 117,000 employees, reduced its workforce by 15% to return to profit, the biggest cost reduction plan in the company's history.
