Nagoya, Japan’s largest port in terms of the value of foreign trade, handled 232,105 TEUs of foreign shipments in July, up 5 percent on-year. Containerized exports grew 4.8 percent to 115,665 TEUs, while imports also rose 5.3 percent to 116,440 TEUs.
The port handled about 11.87 million tons of cargo in foreign shipments in July, up 4.1 percent from a year earlier. Exports increased 9.7 percent to 5.04 million tons; imports were up 0.3 percent to 6.83 million tons.
The municipal government said that the rise in cargo exports was driven by automobiles, industrial machinery and nonmetallic minerals, while imports were led by liquefied natural gas, auto parts and corn.
Foreign trade handled during the January-July period totaled 81.06 million tons, up 5.9 percent from the previous-year period. Exports were up 8.8 percent at 34.10 million tons, while imports were up 3.8 percent at 46.96 million tons.
The port handled 4.08 million tons of containerized foreign shipments in July, up 6.3 percent. Exports totaled 2.15 million tons, up 12.5 percent, and imports amounted to 1.93 million tons, up 0.1 percent.
Foreign trade container cargo in January-July period totaled 27.89 million tons, up 6.1 percent. Exports surged 13.4 percent to 14.55 million tons, but imports edged down 0.9 percent to 13.34 million tons.
Foreign trade containers in January-July period totaled 1,569,078 TEUs, up 4.3 percent from the year-ago period. Exports increased 4.2 percent at 789,869 TEUs, while imports were up 4.3 percent at 779,209 TEUs.
