The crew reported at 6:25 a.m. Moscow time on November 9, that the ship, owned by the Northern Dredging Company and based in St.Petersburg, had been detained by North Korean authorities, the source said.
The crew was repairing the main engine off North Korean territorial waters. The ship has been moved to port Chongjin, according to the crew.
The Stepan Demishev is now out of contact with Russian authorities, the ministry source said.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has been informed of the incident, he said.
