Located on a main river mouth that empties into the East Sea along the East-West Economic Corridor that links Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam together, Danang port has benefitted from State investment worth almost US$100 million, giving a face-lift to its Tien Sa port and upgrading the docks, transforming them into a container port with an annual capacity of 150,000 containers (TEUs).
Danang port has also invested hundreds of billions of VND in the construction of a warehouse with a footprint of 52,000 sq. m. to serve the Tien Sa port, in readiness for regional integration with the Greater Mekong Sub-region.
The port's managerial board plans to handle 4 million tonnes of cargo annually by 2010, of which containers will make up 120,000 TEUs.
The board has drawn up out a clear roadmap for modernisation, starting with the construction of Son Tra port, where they will build a 400 m-long dock for 10,000 DWT freighters during the 2008-10 period.
Between 2010-2020, the board will call for investment in one additional container port capable of receiving freighters of more than 50,000- tonnes and container ships in excess of 3,000 TEUs.
In addition to the construction of a bonded warehouse and the establishment of a logistics company, Danang port is improving the quality of its services and management to meet UK stringent ISO 9001-2000 quality control standards.
