The volume of Russian transit transported by Transpoint International Oy via Finland is going down today, PortNews IAA journalist learnt from Mr. Kari Voutilainen, Managing Director of Transpoint International Oy at a press-tour Logistics and Logistical Service arranged by Finnfacts. “Russian transit it is not to increase but to fall down,” Mr. Voutilainen said. “One third of the transit has been cars. Now you have your own Detroit in St. Petersburg thus the demand for import is decreasing”. When speaking about the reasons for transit decrease Mr. Voutilainen noted “You have many factories in Russia now and car production is going up and up. Mazda is to be delivered by Transsib. At the same time the financial situation in Russia is not so easy any more to borrow money from a bank. Besides, every body has cars today. So I assume that car transportation is to go down by 50%.” Mr. Voutilainen also believes that in the future Russian Government will take steps ahead to have more DDP transportations to Russia (delivered and duty paid), which is to simplify the operations at the border and the customs.
