Sovcomflot OJSC has signed a contract with Pella shipyard for construction of four ship-towing tugs. The tugs will be built within the framework of Sovcomflot strategy aimed at the development of terminal management in Russian oil ports.
The tugs will be equipped with Rolls-Royce rudder propellers. The tugs’ characteristics will be able to work in Russian ports round the year. The will be deployed for operation in Ust-Luga, Primorsk and Kozmino (Primorje).
Leningrad Shipyard Pella OJSC comprises 11 subsidiary and affiliated companies. Pella specializes in three basic activities: shipbuilding, mechanical engineering and fiberglass production. Pella assets total RUR 476 million.
Sovcomflot Group specialises in seaborne energy transportation. It holds the top position in the product carrier, Aframax tanker and Arctic shuttle-tanker market segments, and is the leading ice-class tanker operator for the transportation of liquefied natural gas (LNG). These market segments are the most in demand for Russia’s foreign trade.
According to the Group’s results for the nine months to 30 September 2008 (compared with the same period in 2007) gross revenues of the Sovcomflot Group grew by more than 36 per cent and exceeded USD 1.2 billion.
