Fujairah refinery focuses on fuel oil production

Vitol says it is using its Fujairah refinery to support its fuel oil operations. "We completed the recommissioning of the 30,000 barrel-a-day (bpd) unit, which can process a variety of crudes,"  said Chris Bake, Vitol Dubai's managing director.
"This is for simple distillation [....], it is being used primarily to support our fuel oil business both regionally and for export to Asia."
Vitol, an international oil marketing company and commodities trader, bought a majority stake in the Fujairah Refinery in May last year.
The 82,000 bpd refinery had been mothballed and is now being brought back into production.
Speaking in an interview with Reuters, Bake said that Vitol was considering upgrading and restarting the refinery's 50,000 bpd crude unit and associated vacuum distillation unit.
"We are investing in Fujairah because there is a commitment by the government to invest and create a world class port facility here," Blake said.
Vitol has been supplying bunker fuel in Fujairah since June.  Reports say the company has three bunker vessels serving the Fujairah market, which is the largest bunkering hub in the Middle East.
Bake also said Vitol was set to complete a 560,000-cubic-metre clean petroleum storage facility by the middle of next year.
The additional storage tanks will take Vitol's storage capacity in Fujairah to nearly 1.1 million cubic metres.  It already has some 500,000 cubic metres capacity for dirty petroleum product.
"This is Phase 1 of our plan to build storage for crude oil and store and blend clean petroleum products for the region or for export," Bake said.
