CKYH announces service adjustments

The CKYH Alliance (Coscon, K-Line, Yang Ming, Hanjin Shipping) has announced its plans to rationalise its services in response to increasing uncertainty in the world's economy.
CKYH suspended the All Water East Coast (AWE) Central Loop in early-October, and reduced the total capacity in the CKYH AWE trade by around 18.5%.
CKYH also suspended its East Med Express (EMX) service in the Asia-East Mediterranean trade in mid-October.
CKYH is now conducting an extensive study to further restructure the Asia-East Mediterranean services, including the Aegean Sea Direct Express (ADX) service, and will make further service changes as part of its rationalisation plans.
Capacity in the North Trans Atlantic (TAS-1) service connecting the US and Europe will be reduced by approximately 18%, effective mid-November. The port rotation and schedule will remain unchanged, but the size of the vessels deployed will be modified.
Capacity in the Pacific South West (PSW) trade will be reduced. The current Mediterranean - Asia - America Pendulum (MAP) service connecting the Mediterranean, Asia and the US will be terminated, effective early-2009. This is around 13% - 15% of the total capacity deployed in the PSW trade by the CKYH Alliance. However, CKYH will use current services, such as the South China Express (SEA) as a substitution for the MAP service.
The European service CNX, which deploys eight Panamax vessels operated by Hanjin, will be suspended from end-January 2009. This will reduce CKYH's weekly capacity to North Europe by around 9%.
