Singapore's container throughput growth continues to drop in October

The number of containers handled by Singapore's ports continued to decline with 2.52 million standard containers throughput in October, down from 2.55 million in the previous month, according to data released by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore on Thursday.
The decline was due to the global economic slowdown and less demand from major markets such as the United States and Europe.
But data also showed that the figure was an increase of 5 percent compared to the same month last year.
In the first ten months of this year, major port operator PSA handled 24.65 million standard containers at Singapore ports, a growth of 9.9 percent compared to a year ago.
Another port Jurong Port moved 81,000 standard containers in October, up 22.7 percent over the same month last year.
The growth rate of container volumes in Singapore has been moderating from double digits in July to single digits in August, September and October.
