Itella Logistics plans to become leading logistics provider in Northern Europe by 2013

Itella Logistics plans to become the leading logistics provider in the Northern Europe by 2013, PortNews IAA reporter cites Yuri Männikkö, Business Manager of Itella Logistics, as saying in the course of presstour Logistics and Logistical Services arranged by Finnfacts. “Obviously we acknowledge that we are not able to do all operations in each country by ourselves. That’s why we have a network of 400 partner offices on 5 continents,” Mr. Männikkö said. He also noted that ItellaLogistics has good perspectives in Russia despite the financial crisis. “We do see that growth in a Russia is huge and following the consumer buying power retailers sell more, which means that warehouses have more goods to be stored and distributed.

Of course, financial crisis always effects logistics so it is a challenge for us but it is also an opportunity as companies trying to cope with their costs turn to outsourcing”. According to Mr. Männikkö, in-house logistics is widespread in Russia, which has a huge amount of service providers. However, outsourcing allows companies to change fixed costs to flexible costs. “ Logistics market in Russia is 4-5 years behind Finland though in a couple of years they are to be the same especially when it comes to warehousing market ”, Mr. Männikkö thinks.
Itella Logistics is a part of Itella Logistics Corporation operating in three business areas: mail delivery, information logistics and service logistics in 11 countries. In 2007, Itella Logistics sales totaled EUR 620 million. Its personnel numbers 4,350 people in 8 countries. In Russia, Itella Logistic is represented by ОООItella.
