Port of Tallinn cancelled procurement for expanding port of Muuga

Port of Tallinn cancelled the tender to broaden the port of Muuga, since it’s difficult to get loan money and no agreement has been reached with Chinese to operate in the port.
Post of Tallinn based the cancellation on the change of important technical and economic parameters, Postimees.ee reports.
Due global economic downturn and financial crisis the interest on loan money has risen importantly and getting the money is harder than when the procurement was announced.
Founding post of Muuga’s eastern part was meant to be cooperation with Chinese operator, but no bonding agreement has been reached yet.
If the port of Tallinn reaches an agreement with its Chinese partner, they’ll announce new tender, Sven Ratassepp, press secretary of the port of Tallinn, said.
The port of Tallinn has negotiations of Chinese Ningbo port representatives to found container terminal and distribution centre of Chinese goods to Muuga.
It will cost more than billion kroons to build terminal’s berths and territory.
