"H&H Lines' decision to call OICT is a reflection of Sohar's growing prominence as a maritime gateway in the region. More importantly, H&H's package of shipping services will provide Sohar-based industries and shippers with the connectivity they need to tap a host of booming and emerging markets in the Indian sub-continent, East Africa and the Red Sea." Managed and operated from Dubai, H&H Lines Ltd is the flagship division of the global logistics firm, DOM Group. The company specialises in the provision of liner services that cater to rapid growth corridors in India, Pakistan, Red Sea, Kenya and Tanzania, besides the Gulf.
The company currently operates four ships on a charter basis that are deployed on three key strings: India-Gulf-Africa (IGA) service linking Nhava Sheva-Munra-Jebel Ali-Mombasa-Dar-es- Salaam-Nhava Sheva; (ii) Red Sea India Express (RIX) connecting Karachi -- Nhava Sheva -- Hodeidah -- Port Sudan -- Karachi; and (iii) West Asia Express (WAX) service linking Sohar -- Jabal Ali -- Mundra -- Karachi --Sohar. Besides, it also operates a 'Carrier Own Container' service on other strings. According to Teo, H&H brings a completely new brand of shipping services to OICT Sohar. Through its WAX service, H&H enables convenient feedering of cargo from Mundra (Gujarat) and Karachi (Pakistan) into Sohar for onward delivery to the Muscat market via its 'Carrier Own Container' (COC) service.
The WAX service will also cater to the growing demand for common feeder services among shipping lines that wish to ship their cargo ex-OICT to connect with their mother lines at the Jabal Ali hub. OICT has attracted a growing number of leading shipping lines to Sohar, including Maersk Line, APL, CMA-CGM and MSC. A member of Hutchison Port Holding Limited (HPH), the world's leading port investor, developer and operator, OICT is jointly owned by HPH, the Omani government, Steinweg of the Netherlands, and a number of other well-established Omani and UAE investors.
