In January-October 2008, international seaport of Aktau (Kazakhstan) handled 8.745 million tonnes of cargo (-5.1%, year-on-year) including 1.540 million tonnes of dry cargo (-33%), the port informs. In the reported period, transshipment of metal goods amounted to 1.294 million tonnes, grain – 166,000 tonnes, other cargo – 80,000 tonnes.
In the 10-month period the port handled 7.020 million tonnes of oil including 865,648 tonnes of oil handled in October.
In January-October, total volume of ferry cargo amounted to 194,000 tonnes.
The port of Aktau is located at the eastern shore of the Caspian Sea. It is the only seaport of Kazakhstan to serve international transportation of dry cargo, oil and oil products.
