Three new Arctic-class panamax tankers are being constructed in Korea by Samsung Heavy Industries for Russian shipowner JSC Sovcomflot. Following delivery in 2007 to 2009, these 70,000 dwt tankers will be used for the transportation of crude oil from the Varandey terminal located on the Pechora Sea in Northwest-Arctic Russia.
To provide safe and reliable oil transport in demanding arctic conditions, these RMRS LU6 Ice Class tankers will utilize an electric power plant and twin Azipod® propulsion units, contributing unique icegoing and icebreaking capabilities.
