NCC plans commissioning of Ust-Luga container terminal in August 2009

National Container Terminal (NCC LLC) plans to bring a container terminal in the port of Ust-Luga (Leningrad region) into operation in August 2009, Interfax cites NCC Vice-President Egor Govorukhin as saying at the fifth international conference " Container and Ro-Ro Transportation in Russia and the Neighbouring States".
Earlier NCC planned to commission the terminal in December 2008, then postponed it till May 2009. According to Mr. Govorukhin it was caused by problems in the project implementation due to long-running coordination with different authorities. Mr. Govorukhin said at the first phase the terminal is handle 350,000 to 500,000 TEU per year.

He also told the logistics terminal in Shushary (Leningrad region) is to be put into operation in January 2009. According to Mr. Govorukhin, the terminal is to reach its design capacity of 200,000 tonnes of cargo within 1.5 years. "Financial crisis influenced none of our projects," NCC Vice-President added.

NCC started construction of Ust-Luga container terminal in April 2007. When all the phases are put into operation the terminal will be able to handle 3 mln TEU. Totalinvestments into construction are to make $800 million till 2019.

The construction of the logistics terminal in Shushary was commenced by NCC in September 2007. Investments into the terminal capable of storing 10,000 TEU of loaded container s and 4,500 TEU of empty containers are to make $85 million at the first phase. The terminal will make it possible to raise the capacity of First Container Terminal CJSC in the seaport of St. Petersburg. Containers will be delivered to Shushary by railway and motor transport.

National Container Company (NCC) is the leading Russian operator of container terminals. It holds leading position at the market of stevedoring services. NCC is owned in equal shares by First Quantum and FESCO transport group. In 2007, total throughput of NCC container terminals exceeded 1.5 million TEU.
