Maersk New Zealand is trying to get two of its large container ships through the port ahead of the strike. Both are so-called 4100s, which are capable of carrying 4100 standard sized containers.
Ports of Auckland managing director Jens Madsen said another vessel had dropped Auckland from its schedule for next week because of the strike action.
On top of guaranteeing staff a four percent pay rise in the first year, backdated to April 2007, and 4.5 percent in the second year, the third offer provides benefits to engineering staff and also gives a guarantee of full-time employment for an additional 40 staff who are currently employed on a part-time basis.
Earlier this week, mediation facilitated by the Department of Labour between Ports of Auckland and the Maritime Union of New Zealand Local 13 branch failed to avert the strike.
The port had agreed to meet the union and the mediator again.
