Port of Arkhangelsk throughput rises 34.2 percent
Freight traffic passing through the port of Arkhangelsk in January-July 2012 jumped by 34.2% compared with the same period in 2011 to 3,103,700 tons, the Port Authority said.
Oil product exports in the last seven months soared 66.6% from a yer earlier to 1,138,400 tons, the volume of timber cargo fell by 4.9% to 275,600 tons, coal shipments surged by 67.7% to 203,300 tons, the seven-month volume of pulp, paper and cardboard jumped by 52.5% to 71,200 tons.
Short sea traffic rose by 66.4% to 1,263,900 tons, including arrivals (777,400 tons, +70.9%) and departures (486.5 tons, +59.6%).
The year-round navigable Port of Arkhangelsk is located in the delta of the Northern Dvina River flowing into the White Sea. JSC Arkhangelsk Sea Commercial Port is a diversified stevedoring company operating at the Port of Arkhangelsk. The company handles primarily general cargoes, cellulose, cardboard, containers, timber, metals, fertilizers, heavy-lift equipment and bulked cargoes. The Arkhangelsk port is able to handle up to 4.5 million tons of cargo a year. In 2011, cargo throughput at the port of Arkhangelsk rose 1.8% year-over-year to 1,736,200 tons.
