TCC readies aframax orders
One of Hong Kong’s premier owners is scouring the yards ready to order a pair of aframax tankers. Kenneth Koo, boss of Tai Chong Cheang Steamship (TCC) told SinoShip News that his fleet, currently standing at 10 capes, one panamax bulker, a VLCC and three VLCCs will undergo a period of “rejuvenation” in the downturn and on top of that the tanker fleet would be bolstered, SinoShipNews reports.
“We are doing a lot with oil majors, so as well as rejuvenation we will expand tanker fleet from four to six and then see what comes up on the horizon,” Koo revealed.
Aframaxes will be the additions, Koo says, as they are the “true workhorses of the tanker industry” and there are less on order of this ship type and TCC has 20 years of aframax trading history behind it.
