Port Vanino seven-month cargo volumes down 4 percent
Cargo traffic at OJSC Port Vanino in January-July 2012 totaled 3,142,000 tons, a 4-percent decline from the same period a year before, the stevedoring company said.
The seven-month volume of exports reached 1,378,000 tons, including 627,000 tons of coal, 111,000 tons of non-ferrous metals and 545,000 tons of timber. Imports made up 794,000 tons, including 756,000 tons of alumina.
Short sea traffic for the period amounted to 122,000ons.
The Vanino-Kholmsk ferry service transported 819,000 tons of cargo.
In July, cargo throughput at the Port Vanino amounted to 404,000 tons. The decline was attributed to Russian Railways (RZD) capabilities to haul all the freight projected by the stevedore and, backlog of deliveries and irregular shipments of cargo.
JSC Vanino Commercial Sea Port (Port Vanino) is the major operator of the port of Vanino (Khabarovsk Territory). The port is a gateway for trade flows between Russia and Japan, South Korea, China, Australia, USA and other countries of Asia Pacific Region. Vanino also handles imports shipped to the northern regions of Russia. Port Vanino owns the waterfront of about 2.5-km with three specialized cargo handling facilities. In 2011, cargo throughput at Port Vanino terminals shrank 1.7% to 5.9 million tons.
