Mermaid Marine Australia (MMA) won a contract in excess of A$50m ($52.5m) from mining giant BHP Billiton Petroleum to provide an offshore support vessel (OSV) to support floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) operations off the North West Coast of Western Australia, Seatrade Asia online reports.
The OSV, Mermaid Cove, is currently under construction in Singapore and will commence operations in 2013. The contract is for an initial period of five years plus two additional one-year options to be exercised by BHP.
DP2-abled Mermaid Cove is powered by an environmentally-friendly diesel-electric drive system to provide fuel and cost efficiency.
