ClassNK receives expanded authorisation from US Coast Guard

ClassNK has received expanded authorisation from the US Coast Guard (USCG), Seatrade Asia online reports. Under the extension ClassNK can carry out a full range of SOLAS, MARPOL and AFS conventions, as well as ISM Audits on behalf of the United States flag administration

The expanded authorisation sees ClassNK expanding its business to cover domestic and offshore shipowners, as well at the international sector it traditionally covers.

“At ClassNK we have served the American blue water shipping community for more than 50 years now, but with this authorization from the USCG we will now be able to greatly expand our operations to include coastal, gulf, and inland shipping, as well as the growing offshore energy and wind sectors,” said Noburu Ueda, chairman of ClassNK.

The classification society will be boosting its number of surveyors in the US market.
