Throughput of Tallinn port (Estonia) down 19.2% to 27.4 mln t in 2012

In 2012, throughput of the Port of Tallinn amounted to 27,476,100 tons, down 19.2%, year-on-year, the Port’s Administration informs. In the reported period, container throughput of the port grew by 15.2%, year-on-year, to 227,809 TEUs.  

In the 12-month period the port handled 19,359,900 tons of liquid bulk cargo (-26.4%), 4,034,600 tons of loose dry cargo (-1.1%) and 3,828,100 tons of Ro-Ro cargo (+3.7%). Transshipment of import cargo increased by 2% to 3,593,900 tons, export cargo – fell by 3.6% to 3,322,600 tons. During the year the port accepted 4,609,300 tons of transit cargo (-28%) and dispatched 17,716,700 tons of transit cargo (-22.2%).

The port’s turnover of vessels (including passenger vessels calling on the port) climbed by 0.5% to 7,243 vessels (including 1,966 cargo vessels and 5,277 passenger vessels).

Tallinn is the third largest port of the Baltic Sea after St. Petersburg and Primorsk.  The port consists of 5 five constituent harbours: Muuga, Old City Harbour, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and Saaremaa. In 2011 the port handled 36.5 mln t of cargo.
