United Industrial Corporation and Sovcomflot sign agreement on cooperation

United Industrial Corporation and Sovcomflot have signed a cooperation agreement, anticipating the developmental work of technical and commercial operation factors of the construction of multifunctional supply icebreaker and also tankers for transportation of liquefied natural gas. The tankers capacity totals 75,000 m³. The Agreement was signed within the framework of XIII St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, PortNews IAA reporter says.

United Industrial Corporation (OPK) is one of Russia’s largest diversified corporations managing more than 300 bn rubles’ worth of assets. OPK is managing shipbuilding assets, including such industry majors as Severnaya Verf, Baltiysky Zavod, Iceberg Design Office, and other machine-building facilities. During OPK’s operation in this sphere, the shipyards have supplied their customers with military and civil ships costing a total of US$3.2 bn. OPK’s strategic target is to set up a modern shipbuilding facility capable of making seagoing vessels ranging up to 300,000 tonnes in deadweight, the annual deadweight output being 500,000 tonnes.

 

Sovcomflot OJSC is Russia’s largest shipping company and the world’s fifth-largest tanker company. Its fleet comprises 133 vessels with total deadweight of some 9.5 million tonnes. The Group’s current backlog of orders numbers 28 vessels with total deadweight of 2.7 million tonnes. The average age of the Group’s tanker fleet is six years (against the world’s average age of 12 years).
