In January-May 2009, oil export via port Primorsk reached almost 31.823 mln t (+3%, year-on-year), Administration of Big Port of St. Petersburg states. In May, the port handled 6.2 million tonnes of oil (-5%, year-on-year).
In the 5-month period, turnover of vessels totaled 728 units (364 in and 364 out), In May - 129 units (65 in and 64 out).
The port of Primorsk (Leningrad Region, subsidiary of Transneft company) was put into operation on December 27, 2001 as the final stage of the first phase of Baltic Pipeline System (BPS) aimed at oil transportation from Timano-Pechersk and West-Siberian oil-and-gas provinces as well as from Kazakhstan. PBS’s annual capacity as of the date of commissioning was 12 million tonnes. In 2003 PBS’s capacity was increased to 30 million tonnes of oil per year. Today itscapacity is 65 million tonnes. In 2008, 75.58 million tonnes of oil cargo was exported via the port of Primorsk.
