Railway approaches to the ports of Russia’s Southern Basin have reached the limit of their capacity, IAA PortNews reporter cites Deputy Transport Minister of Russia Victor Olersky as saying today at the Forum of Dredging Companies organized by media-group PortNews.
According to Victor Olersky, 100% of the railway infrastructure capacity is being used today in this region making some 70 mln t per year. Some RUB 165 bln is to be allocated for the capacity expansion (including RUB 88 bln from the federal budget and the other part from the investment programme of Russian Railways OJSC). This will allow to raise the capacity by 120 mln t per year.
The Deputy Minister says, the projects on construction of new port facilities in the region should be synchronized with the expansion of the capacity of remote and close railway approaches.
