Dutch dredging company Van Oord eyes cooperation with Russian educational institutions training marine and river transport specialists. According to IAA PortNews journalist, this was announced by the member of the Executive Committee of Van Oord Mr. Joep Athmer at the Forum of Dredging Companies organized by media-group PortNews. Mr. Joep Athmer says Van Oord is mostly interested in cooperation with the Admiral Makarov State University of Maritime and Inland Shipping (Saint-Petersburg).
According to Mr. Joep Athmer, Van Oord has its own training class at the head office in Rotterdam where the company specialists are trained. There are simulators of trailing suction hopper dredgers, backhoe dredgers and cutter suction dredgers. The company also arranges leadership development programs (from junior to strategic management), technical practices 2-3 times a year, instruction and training on operation security.
