The naming ceremony of the vessel for the Klaipėda liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in South Korean city Ulsan. The vessel was named Independence as a symbol of Lithuania independence from Russian natural gas suppliers.
The ceremony was attended by Lithuania President Dalia Grybauskaitė.
The LNG storage vessel was built for Lithuania in South Korea by Norwegian company Höegh LNG in association with the local company Hyundai Heavy Industries.
The Independence will come to Lithuania icebreaker the end of the year. Grybauskaitė underlined that Lithuania - the first of the Baltic States having built an LNG terminal - secured its real independence from gas supplier Gazprom.
