USC designs vessels equipped with scrubbers and powered by LNG

The companies of the United Shipbuilding Corporation OJSC are developing vessels fitted with fuel purification systems (scrubbers) and operating on alternative fuels. According to IAA PortNews journalist, this was announced at the 5th international Ecology Forum by Boris Ionov, head of industrial and labour safety department of USC subdivision on innovative development and management quality.

According to him, Design Bureau Vympel has designed icebreaker equipped with scrubber (project 21905), trawler with double-fuel system and catalyst for purification of nitrogen oxides (project 00730) as well as tankers with emission metering system and emission level registration.

In conjunction with the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, USC works on clarification of the rules for the use of LNG at vessels which are not gas carriers. The Northern Design Bureau has developed a conceptual design of LNG-powered ice-class gas carrier fitted with state-of-the-art ballast water systems and high-strength hull.

Design Bureau Rubin is developing environmentally friendly marine equipment for offshore fields.

The above work is financed by internal resources and federal special-purpose programme aimed at the development of civil and marine equipment.

United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC OJSC) is the largest shipbuilding company in Russia. It was set up in 2007 with 100% federal ownership. The holding comprises 60 companies and organizations (major shipbuilding and shiprepairing companies as well as leading design bureaus). Currently, USC consolidates about 80% of the domestic shipbuilding complex. The Russian market is the main focus of the state corporation though it also exports its products to 20 countries worldwide.
