Russia can collect up to 5,000 t of oily mixture in the Gulf of Finland, CNIIMF says

Emergency rescue teams of Russia can collect up to 5,000 t of oily mixture in case of accidental oil spill, Aleksey Ivanchin, research scientist of Central Marine Research and Design Institute (CNIIMF), said at the 5th International Ecology Forum in Saint-Petersburg, IAA PortNews journalist reports.

According to the assessments, risk of accidental oil spill is 0.004%, or 1 case for 100 years. The amount of spilt product can vary between 500 and 1,500 t.

CNIIMF says the Baltic Basin is the most equipped one in terms of oil spill response. If its team & emergency equipment is taken as 100%, the level at the western region of the Arctic is estimated at 40%, eastern region - 2%, Far East Basin – 25%, Caspian –30%.
