European Gateway Services (EGS), a subsidiary of ECT in Rotterdam, and TX Logistik AG (TXL) have raised the frequency of their joint rail connection between Rotterdam and Bavaria from three to four departures per week, in response to the strong increase in demand over the past months, the company said in its press release.
The service to Nuremberg and Munich started two years ago and transports both continental freight units and maritime containers. The extra arrival and departure is on Thursday evenings in Nuremberg and Munich, supplementing the existing arrivals on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings. The rail connection can mainly count on interest from shipping companies, freight forwarders and shippers with large volumes of import and export freight.
The trains can each carry 80 TEU (standard container unit) and are operated jointly by TXL and EGS. TXL takes care of the organisation, planning and locomotives. In the port of Rotterdam the service calls at CTT, Euromax Terminal and ECT Delta Terminal. Transshipment by truck and barge to other terminals and ports such as Antwerp, Vlissingen, Terneuzen and Moerdijk is also possible.
