Russian seaports’ four-month cargo volumes grow 6.2% to 197.8 million tonnes
Handling of imports / exports and transit cargoes at Russian seaports in January-April increased by 6.2% year-on-year to 197,800,000 tonnes, the ASOP said.
The four-month volume of dry bulk cargo rose 14.3% on last year’s figure to 87.2 million tonnes, including 35.4 m t of coal (+16.8%), 15.3m t of containerized cargoes (+7.5%), 8.3m t of ferrous metals (+1.1%), 7.3m t of grain (a 4.4 times surge), 4.5m t of fertilizers (+20.9%), 2.2m t carried by ferries (+4%) and 1.4m t of scrap metal. Shipments of ore and nonferrous metals declined by 17.5% and 22.5% to 1.9m t and 1.1m t, respectively.
Shipment of liquid bulk through the nation’s ports climbed 0.6% on four-month period 2013 and totaled 110.6 million tonnes, including, including 64.2 million tonnes of crude oil (-7.7%), 40.7m t of oil products (+14.8%), 4.4m t of liquified gas (+10.4%).
In the reporting period the Russian ports saw a 8.8-percent growth in exports compared to January-April 2013, to 159.7 million tonnes. Imports fell 9.7% to 13.7 million tonnes. Transshipment of transit cargo increased by 10.5% to 16.3 million tonnes, short sea traffic volume dropped 15.4% year-on-year to 8.1m t.
In January-April stevedoring companies of the Arctic basin handled 11.5 million tonnes of cargoes, or 22.6% down from last year's figures. Shipments of dry bulk cargo through the terminals of the Russian northern region was up 9.7% to 8.2 million tonnes, liquid bulk volume slumped 2.3 times to 3.3 m t. Respectively, dry bulk volume in the port of Murmansk rose 7.3% and liquid bulk dropped 80%. Overall throughput at the port declined 20.3% to 7.7 million tonnes. The port of Arkhangelsk’s cargo throughput shrank by 14.5% to 1.3 million tonnes.
In January-April, terminal operators at the Baltic Sea-based Russian ports moved 71.5 million tonnes of different cargoes, up 2.6% from last year’s mark, including 28.2 million tonnes of dry bulk (+9.4%), 43.3 million tonnes of liquid bulk (-1.3%). Cargo traffic at Port of Ust-Luga rose 23.5% to 23 million tonnes. Big Port St. Petersburg cargo volume was up 9.9% to 19.1 million tonnes. Port of Vysotsk reported a 5.3% gain to 5.3 m tonnes, Port of Vyborg – a 27.7% increase to 0.49m t. Ports of Primorsk and Kaliningrad saw decline of 17.8%, 9.9% to 19.1m t and 4.5m t, respectively.
Total cargo throughput at the ports of Azov-Black Sea basin was 60.2 million tonnes (+12.8%). Dry bulk cargo shipments rose to 20 million tonnes (+20.9%). Liquid bulk traffic grew to 40.2 million tonnes (+9.1%). Four-month exports / imports through the Port of Novorossiysk totaled 41.2m tonnes, (+9.9%). Cargo traffic at the port of Tuapse jumped by 34% to 7 million tonnes, at the port of Taman – as much as 1.6 times to 3.9m t, at the port of Rostov-on-Don – by 2.9% to 2.7m t, at the port of Azov – by 38.8% to 1.3m t. Throughput at the port of Yeysk and Taganrog increased to 900,000 tonnes, by 40.1%, 19.4%, respectively.
The Caspian Sea-based Russian ports transshipped 2.4 million tonnes (-7.2%), including 800,000 tonnes of dry bulk cargoes (-14.7%), 1.6 million tonnes of liquid bulk (-2.8%). Cargo shipments through the ports of Makhachkala, Astrakhan and Olya fell 3.4%, 10% and by 1.9 times, accordingly.
In January-April, the ports of the Far Eastern basin handled 52.1 million tonnes (+14.2%). Shipments of dry bulk cargo through the region’s ports rose 17.3% to 29.9 million tonnes, of liquid bulk – 10.1% to 22.2 million tonnes.
Vostochny port handled 18.1 million tonnes (+14.7%). Port Vanino throughput rose 11.1% to 8.3 million tonnes. Stevedore companies of the Port of Nakhodka moved 6.7 m t (+14.2%). Prigorodnoye port's cargo volume reached 5.9m t (+2.2%). The Port of Vladivostok handled 5.1 million tonnes (+15.7%). Cargo shipments via the port of De Kastri rose 27.1% to 2.6 million tonnes, the Port Posiet freight volume jumped 34.1% to 2.4m t. Operators of Petropavlovsk-Kamachatsky port's terminals handled 500,000 tonnes (-19.2%).
