Stricter environmental requirements to make cargo/passenger flows shift to land transport, European ship owners believe (photo)

Stricter environmental requirements can lead to redirection of cargo/passenger flows from marine to land transport, ESPO Secretary General Patrick Verhoeven said when answering the question of IAA PortNews at briefing in Hamburg (Germany) dedicated to SMM exhibition and conference scheduled for September 9-12, 2014.

According to him, the monitoring of shipping shows that introduction of new restrictions will result in the increase of prices for transportation in the region, primarily ro-ro cargo, ferry and passenger transportation.

From January 1, 2015, sulphur content in bunker fuel must be below 0.1% for ships sailing in the ECA zones.
