A campaign against convenient flags will be held at the ports of the Black Sea region on May 26 – 30, 2014, press center of Seafarers’ Union of Russia says.
The campaign starts simultaneously in large port cities of Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Georgia and Russia including Novorossiysk, Yeisk, Taman, Temryuk and Kavkaz.
During this period, inspectors will visit vessels flying the flags of foreign states and check the vessels to verify their compliance with international labour standards. If violations are revealed, demands on immediate corrective actions will be forwarded to ship owners.
In particular, the inspectors will check the compliance with ILO Maritime Labour Convention.
It is the second campaign against the flags of convenience to be held in the Black Sea region.
