In August 2009, cargo turnover at the Freeport of Riga was 19.4% higher than in the same month last year, as LETA learned from the port's authority.
As reported, the Freeport of Riga handled 17.218 million tons of cargo in January-July, a 1.3% increase on January-July 2008.
The largest turnover increase was observed in liquid cargo handled at the port, which increased by 28.5% in the first seven months of the year and reached 3.863 million tons.
There was 0.6% increase in bulk cargo handled at the port, reaching 11.148 million tons. On the other hand, the volume of general cargo handled at the port decreased by 24.3% and totaled 2.206 million
Turnover of containers (TEU) in the Freeport of Riga decreased 13.8% – down to 101,624 TEU.
